Dear Bozeman City Commissioners:
I am writing to express my support for maintaining the current R-4 zoning for the lots located at the
northeast corner of W Lamme St and N Third Ave. I think it was wise of Commissioner Madgic and 2
Community Development Board members to vote against this rezoning. The pace and direction toward
luxury condos in the neighborhoods adjacent to downtown is disconcerting. It creates a feeling of
inevitability. It’s hard to keep up with proposed development and difficult to motivate/participate when
changes like these seem certain. But that is just my feeling and not a rational reason to oppose or deny
rezoning. Rather, maintaining and promoting zoning and development that supports attainable and
affordable housing is the reason to deny this application. The City Commission and community at large has
recognized that housing for working- and middle-class residents is one of the biggest challenges facing
Bozeman. R-4 zoning is better suited to addressing the housing crisis than B-3.
