Dear Sustainability Board Members, Thank you for serving on the Sustainability Citizen Advisory Board, a vital part of Bozeman's commitment to citizen engagement and a holistic approach to sustainability and resilience. As a resident of Bozeman, I deeply appreciate all the work you will do to inform policies thatconserve the natural resources and ecological diversity of this valley for future generations. As a professional involved in work to strengthen community food systems, I value the importance of Solution N: Build A Robust Local Food System. Increasingly, after decades ofbeing seen predominantly as 'calories' or 'commodities', food is being recognized an essential piece of sustainability and resilience. Healthful locally and regionally produced foods increasecommunity resilience in multiple ways, from an enhanced local economy to conserved agricultural land to increased social resilience. In short, Solution N is about more than foodavailability. As you develop next steps and recommendations to address Actions 6.N.1. through 6.N.4, I encourage you to reach out to the vast network of local practitioners working in this space, from young and beginning farmers to the businesses and non-profits dedicated to building local/regional food chains. These community members have vital local knowledge, as well asfamiliarity with resources that can assist in implementation of Solution N. As a member of Open & Local's steering committee, I can affirm that this Gallatin Valley based coalition is interested in supporting the City of Bozeman in the development ofeffective, appropriate solutions and next steps. Again, thank you for stepping up to serve! I look forward to collaborating with you.
