It can be incorporated into the design of the upcoming construction and surely the esthetic will be better for it. We need to consider how all of these big square high rises are going to age? They already bring to mind the projects. It doesn't seem likely that the style will be appreciated in the future as it lacks beauty, craftsmanship and quality materials. All of those things are already present in the Old Hospital Building! Please make it available for the appreciation of future generations just as the Gallatin Laundry Building restoration and the US Bank Building restoration will do, and that the Old Willson High School restoration and the Armory restoration have done. It may cost the developer more money but preserving this building is priceless. In doing so we preserve a significant piece our city's history and character. The landlord may even be able to charge more for the space in the Old Hospital portion of the development due to it's history and distinctiveness. I've heard told that the City allowed the razing of half of old downtown on E. Babcock Street in the 1980s, and that once upon a time N. 7th Avenue was a beautiful tree lined Boulevard. Once its gone its gone for forever and it can not be restored. We have a chance to learn from the mistakes of our predecessors. Save us all the time, and money and heartache. Save the Old Deaconess Hospital.
