Thanks for your attention to this failed traffic area.
The intersection of Oak and Ferguson and Oak and Flanders Mills are dysfunctional. The "double jeopardy"
crossing is dangerous for students and traffic alike.
Students are crossing the divided roadways twice a day heading to Chief Joseph Middle School and Gallatin
High School. The crossing signal at Ferguson and Oak works because of the walk signals but the Flanders
Mill intersection is without any traffic devices. The Western Traffic Institute was successful with their traffic
slowing methods on Annie Street this fall. The difficulty lies in the cars turns from Oak heading both North
and South. Could traffic circles be added.
There was a proposal several years ago but removed from the plans for Gallatin High to put an under
ground tunnel to link the Sports park to the High School. under Oak. This is a grand idea. It was cut because
of costs and now it needs to be revisited.
Could federal money be applied to this project? The growth of the town is headed west and with the
completion of Cottonwood to Baxter Lane will only create more traffic.
The four lane roads are creating impassible grids that limit the livability of west Bozeman. Streets with
designated turning lanes would be a better fix rather than four lane raceways.
Please help improve a failed design.
