Main. The primary facade faces north onto East Main Street and features a commercial store front at- grade. The building was originally recorded by James R. McDonald Architects in 1984, revised by Matt Cohen in 1985, and listed in the NRHP as a contributing property in the Main Street Historic District in 1986 (24GA0952). McDonald describes the property as follows: "This one-story commercial structure has a rectangular plan with two bays which are similar to the Baltimore Hotel next door in detailing. There are two front entrances with storefront windows. The metal and transom above the entry may be original. The brick construction is finished with corbeled detailing and pilasters and has a flat built-up roof which is perpendicular to the street." Metcalf visited the site in 2020 and noted minor alterations. The at-grade storefront has been remodeled to contain a single entrance at the east corner of the facade. Above, each bay contains a three-lite transom with metal muntins. Beneath the corbeled cornice is a sign that reads, "MacKenzie River Pizza Company", the sign is externally illuminated by five lights attached to the cornice above. The rear elevation supports a modern addition composed of painted concrete masonry units capped with a metal fascia. An externally illuminated sign reading, "MacKenzie River Pizza Co." is above the rear entrance. The site is in excellent condition. MONTANA HISTORIC PROPERTY RECORD PAGE 3 History of Property Property Name: 232 E Main St Site Number: 217 HISTORY OF PROPERTY This property was constructed between 1918 and 1925 as an annex to the Baltimore Hotel, just to the west at 222 East Main. Cohen's revisions to McDonald's inventory indicate the original tenants were an auto accessory store and a confectionary, and later tenants include the Louise Cafe. This annex is similar in purpose to the Bozeman Hotel Annex across Main Street, which was intended to generate additional revenue from a function unrelated to the main hotel.
