We call this the "intersection of doom", which I drive 3+ times a week to drop off a high schooler, approaching the intersection from the North. There is SO MUCH that scares me about this intersection, it's hard to capture it all in quick written form. -The intersection is wide enough that crossing by car takes longer than expected. -Crossing on foot is even more harrowing, and I'm a runner so I can move fast. -Turning West from Flanders Mill is OK -Going straight from Flanders across Oak is nearly impossible with traffic. -The anxiety of getting kids to/from school creates a frustration-pressure-cooker-effect where cars are more willing to take risks -Going straight from Flanders across Oak becomes more challenging when a car takes the right turn, but edges out into traffic (past the lead car at the intersection) this blocks the sight-line of the car trying to cross straight south who needs to check for cars coming ~35MPH from the West. With temporary reduced visibility, TWICE i've been surprised by cars heading East on Oak while crossing. ONce this stranded me in the middle of the intersection with cars moving on 3 sides. The only possible up side to this intersection is as a high-stakes drivers ed learning tool. If my son can learn to navigate all approaches to that intersection multiple times, during peak high-school times, without getting into a wreck...he'll be good enough to drive in any US city. Please ante up and convert it into a round-about. -Leif If you would like to submit additional documents (.pdf, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .gif, .jpg, .png, .rtf, .txt) along with your comment, you may alternately address agenda@bozeman.net directly to ensure receipt of all information.
