I am submitting public comment on the Wildlands Development Application 21326. I live in the east side of
Bozeman, not near this proposed development. However, I am a customer of Wild Crumb bakery, Fink’s
Delicatessen, and several other businesses in this Northeast neighborhood. I either drive or bicycle to these
locations. Over time, this area has become more congested and parking increasingly challenging for cars,
service vehicles, and even bicycles. Thus, the amount of parking spaces and biking spaces proposed by the
developer is unrealistic and when compared to the level of additional parking that the development’s
business and residential use would create. Additionally, as others have reported, the number of parking
spaces that will be required by the city for each level of the proposed new building would be 66, not 56 as
reported by the developer. Thus, the starting point needs to be corrected to 66 spaces.
Public safety has not been addressed by this proposal. Increased automobile, truck, and bicycle traffic on
these minor roads, especially in search of extremely insufficient parking, poses unnecessary risks and
hazards for pedestrians, bicyclists, and pets that frequent this neighborhood and these businesses. Public
safety needs to be considered in addressing parking adequacy for this development. Refusing to address
public safety is not an option. A partial solution would be to require a minimum of 30 parking spaces within
the footprint of the development. I advocate for denying this application until parking and public safety are
adequately addressed.
