1. THE BASIS OF DESIGN FOR THIS HEAT TRACE WAS TYCO THERMAL CONTROLS. ONLY MANUFACTURERS
LISTED IN SPECIFICATION SECTION 16125 ARE PERMITTED TO PROVIDE HEAT TRACE PRODUCTS ON THIS
PROJECT.
2. DRAWING LAYOUT IS INTENDED TO BE GENERAL AND CONTRACTOR SHALL MODIFY AS REQUIRED TO
PROVIDE A COMPLETE AND OPERATIONAL SYSTEM. CONTRACTOR SHALL DESIGN THE HEAT TRACE
SYSTEM AND VERIFY THAT WATTAGE LOADS AND CIRCUIT BREAKERS IN MINI‐POWER CENTER ARE
APPROPRIATELY SIZED.
3. THERE ARE SIX DRYING BED HEAT TRACE CONNECTION POINTS (I.E., BEDS 1/3, 5/7, 9, 2/4, 6/8 AND 10),
AND ONE HEAT TRACE CONNECTION POINT FOR THE 12” OVERFLOW TRENCH LINE TO THE MANHOLE ON
THE NORTH SIDE OF THE DRYING BEDS. IT IS INTENDED THAT BEDS 1/3, 5/7 AND 9 ARE FED BY ONE
CONTROLLER CIRCUIT; BEDS 2/4, 6/8 AND 10 ARE FED BY A SECOND CONTROLLER CIRCUIT; AND THE 12”
OVERFLOW TRENCH LINE IS FED BY A THIRD CONTROLLER CIRCUIT. A FOURTH CONTROLLER CIRCUIT
SHALL BE RESERVED FOR THE FUTURE.
1. FURNISH AND INSTALL OUTLET BOX ON POST FACING SOUTH. THIS IS TYPICAL FOR 7.
2. REFER TO SHEET 000E80, DETAIL 1 FOR ROUTING OF TWO HEAT TRACE CABLES OUTSIDE PIPE AS SHOWN.
CONNECT 240V POWER WITH POWER CONNECTION KIT FOR TWO CABLES.
3. PROVIDE QUALZITE HANDHOLES WITH OPEN BOTTOM WITH “ELECTRIC” COVER LOGO AND PROVISIONS FOR
CONDUIT KNOCKOUTS. SIZE HANDHOLE AT 13 X 24 X 18, MODEL NO. PG1324BA18‐CA, OR APPROVED EQUAL.
4. LOCATE HANDHOLE AS APPROPRIATE FOR FUTURE POWER FEED TO HEAT TRACE AND RECEPTACLE FOR FUTURE
DRYING BEDS.
5. PROVIDE 1‐1/2” CONDUIT WITH 2#6AWG AND 1#10G AS SOURCE POWER TO MINI‐POWER CENTER AND 4#14AWG
TO PLANT CONTROL PANEL (PCP) FOR COMMON TROUBLE ALARM (CTA) FROM HEAT TRACE CONTROLLER.
6. PROVIDE TYCO THERMAL CONTROLS TYPE 8XL2‐CT (2 CABLES EXTERNAL IN CONDUIT) FOR 6 PIPING LOCATIONS
AND TYPE GM2‐XT (ONE CABLE INTERNAL) FOR 12” DRAIN LINE, OR APPROVED EQUAL.
7. COIL AND TAPE FUTURE CABLES IN THESE TWO HANDHOLES.
8. PROVIDE 2‐1/2” CONDUIT WITH 12#8AWG, 4#14 (CTA TO PCP) AND 1#10G. ROUTE 240V CIRCUITS VIA
CONTROLLER TO 3 HEAT TRACE CIRCUITS PLUS 1 FUTURE HEAT TRACE CIRCUIT (COIL UP AND TAPE WIRE ENDS IN
NOTED HANDHOLES FOR FUTURE HEAT TRACE), AND ROUTE (3) 120V CIRCUITS TO GFI RECEPTACLES AS SHOWN
ON PLAN AND FUTURE GFI RECEPTACLES (COIL UP AND TAPE WIRE ENDS IN NOTED HANDHOLES FOR FUTURE
RECEPTS).
9. PROVIDE (2) 4” GALVANIZED STEEL PIPES AS A SUPPORT STRUCTURE NEAR FENCE AS COORDINATED WITH OWNER
SPACED 6’‐0” APART WITH TWO HORIZONTAL STAINLESS STEEL STRUTS BOLTED TO PIPES AND CENTERED AT
APPROXIMATELY 5’‐0” ABOVE GRADE FOR SUPPORTING A 15 KVA MINI‐POWER CENTER AND 4‐CIRCUIT TYCO
THERMAL CONTROLS HEAT TRACE CONTROLLER. EMBED 4” PIPES IN 12” DIAMETER REINFORCED CONCRETE
FOUNDATION 36” DEEP.
10. DRYING BEDS #9 AND #10 ARE BID ITEM B2. FOR BID ITEM B2, MOVE HANDHOLES SOUTH OF BEDS #9 AND #10
NORTH TO REPLACE NEAREST JUNCTION (J), AND PROVIDE FOR FUTURE CONNECTIONS TO BEDS #9 10, AND
ADDITIONAL FUTURE BEDS TO THE SOUTH. BID ITEM B2 ELIMINATES TWO OF THE SIX HEAT TRACE CONNECTION
POINTS.
