To whom it may concern,
I'm writing to voice my concern about the proposed annexation and change of zoning of the Canyon Gate
property owned by HomeBase into the city. While I think annexation and development are appropriate I do
not think the current zoning request is appropriate.
Urban infill in downtown is one thing but putting massive 5 story structures outside of the downtown core
is, in a word, absurd. It does not fit with the characteristics of the existing neighborhood.
Additionally, I've heard that there is an option for Canyon Gate to PAY CASH IN LIEU OF REQUIRED
PARKLAND? Oh my goodness... Why use the word required? The entire point of having required open space
and parks is to have open space and parks. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT ALLOW THIS TO GO FORWARD. Allowing
developers to pay off the city so you all can pay for parks in other places is a band aid solution at best and
outright bribery at worst. Please take your responsibility seriously.
I and most of my neighbors agree that the parcel should be developed. There just has to be a sense of
measure specific to how it is developed.... single family homes (just like the character of the surrounding
neighborhoods) along with ample parkland and open space. Nothing less.
