Bozeman City Commission
RE: Canyon Gate
Dear Bozeman City Commission: Our town has changed dramatically since HomeBase Partners
showed up in our community just a few years ago. Downtown has transformed with hotels
and high-rise buildings towering over residential homes. The rich have discovered Bozeman
partly because HomeBase built luxury condominiums and if you build it, they will come. We
have a big problem in our community with teachers, police officers and firefighters not being
able to afford to live here. So why would the City Commission vote to approve yet another
development that doesn’t address our needs as a thriving community where all can live and
work?
Also, why would the City Commission allow HomeBase to trade their green space
requirements for a fee. This puts a burden on the surrounding community developers who
were committed to providing trails and green space access.
More density on this side of the railroad tracks also increases traffic problems. Put the
infrastructure in first. Cars are backed up all the way to Main Street on weekend days when
skiers are heading up to Bridger Bowl. The intersection of Story Mill and Rouse is also
dangerous for bikers, runners, and walkers. And there are the trains. Just a few days ago a
train was stopped on the train tracks Northside of Bozeman blocking all access to the
northside of Bozeman. It was stopped for at least 30 minutes stretching past all three of the
train crossings. If we get high density developments on this side of town then emergency
vehicles won’t be able to have access until the city addresses the problem with the trains.
Please deny the HomeBase Partners rezoning request for Canyon Gate. Please demand that
developers work with the communities they are coming into rather than against them.
HomeBase is no friend of Bozeman. Our community should mean more than a dollar sign and
way for someone to profit.
Sincerely,
Debby and Josh Greene
