To the Honorable City Commission
Regarding the Canyon Gate proposal by Homebase Partners, my comment just boils down tothis: Here we go again. The same old corporation wants to change the zoning of an area so
they can exploit a defenseless community to make money for their own manifest destiny.Folks, this is deja vu all over again. It happened on Villard street just a few years ago. I was
there. The whole neighborhood was there and it didn't matter (Medical Arts west parking lot). And here is the injustice of it all: People make the purchase of a lifetime to buy a home that is
surrounded by expectations. The zoning is there to protect the character of that neighborhoodthey have bought into but then a potent developer, who only sees money and a vision of a
completely different and alien community, comes along and asks the City of Bozeman toaccommodate them for their purposes only.
In the case of Canyon Gate there are other issues, as well, such as traffic and emergencyservices that will be impacted in a hugely negative way. I don't think we need the statistics of
another taxpayer funded study to know this. Where is the nearest fire truck or police car whenthe railroad crossings are all blocked for a half hour? They won't be far away but they will be
of little help until the trains decide to mosey on out of town. Ladies and gentlemen of the commission, I write this with a note of cynicism. Many of us feel
overwhelmed by the changes to Bozeman, inevitable or not. We feel that our voices are veryseldom heard yet our taxes and fees go up and up to help pay for the infrastructure and
services needed for the exploitation of our vulnerability. Our property values are soaring andso are our taxes and insurance. The only way to take advantage of our new found "wealth" is
to sell and leave town, the community I have made my home for over 50 years.
Please, do not allow Canyon Gate to happen. Do not do irreparable harm to anotherneighborhood.
