This development is inappropriate solution given the current pressure on housing and cost in the Valley. I have the privilege of an apartment right now, and wonder how long that will last when I see coworkers being forced out of town by cost of living, and see encampments around town growing as neighbors are forced to live out of their cars or RVs. Many of my friends work multiple jobs to feel secure enough to live here. Owning a home is out of reach. It’s upsetting that the developers of this project have been quite clear that none of the housing added in this proposed project can address these issues and relieve the pressure that myself, my friends, and my neighbors feel as renters in Bozeman. The choice to approve this project and others like it sends a clear message from the commission to Bozeman’s working class and houseless population about who is being prioritized in its growth. Beyond the broad impact of a development like the one being proposed, the surrounding neighborhood has made a large list of the immediate specific impacts of the project. They range from environmental concerns such as destroying the wildlife corridor located on the proposed site, as well as a deeply troubling point that the existing infrastructure struggles with timely emergency services because of the train schedule. Adding density to this area is not a solution—beyond that, the project will create even more issues. It's unclear how approving this development is a decison many Bozemanites will tangibly benefit from. Thank you for reading, and I look forward to seeing that leadership on our commission will continue to take bold action with their neighbors in mind.
