Dear Mayor Andrus, Honorable City Commissioners, and Community Development Director Matsen:
I am writing with concern about the North Central Development plan. I live within a couple blocks of the
project and Villard is my primary route to work and downtown amenities. While I am in full support of
urban infill, I am deeply concerned about the scope of this project. My primary concerns are bulleted
below:
- The plan as presented does not provide enough transition between a towering 6-story building(s) and the
single family homes directly across the street.
- I am concerned about the significant increase in vehicle traffic and the parking pressure this will bring to
the adjacent neighborhood.
- I am concerned the commercial spaces will be leased to national chains furthering the loss of the unique
neighborhood feel.
- I am concerned with cash in lieu of park space and would like to better understand this tradeoff.
Is there an opportunity for the project to create a Community Benefits Agreement that commits to
supporting local and independent commercial tenants, possibly some affordable housing units as well as
addresses other concerns of the neighbors and community at large?
