Traffic Dangers
1) Moving east-bound on Oak street between 27th and 19th, there is a merger. The two lanes shift to one.
The signage directs the left lane to merge into the right one. HOWEVER, the road itself narrows from right
to left. The direction of the merger as indicated by the signs is backward. This is dangerous. When the roads
are covered by snow, it is difficult to tell the correct way. And people intuitively want it to be the right lane
merging into the left; I have almost been hit in that location several times. It would be a simple change. The
paint is already faded, so re do it and change the signs.
2) The intersection of Flanders Mill and Oak street near Gallatin High School presents several dangers.
People traveling west on Oak needing to turn left onto Flanders as a way of approaching the high school
face a very dangerous turn. They must go across a wide median and pass two lanes of traffic, all while on
the lookout for pedestrians. Being next to a school, we should protect our kids by adding a signal, center
turn lane, and/or roundabout at this intersection. Plus it would improve traffic flow so there is not a jam
trying to turn left there every morning and afternoon.
3) The intersection of 11th and Durston by Bozeman High School desperately needs pedestrian protection.
At the very least flashing pedestrian crossing signals would improve safety. At best, a signal or roundabout
at that intersection would protect pedestrians and improve traffic flow.
