The intersection of Oak and Flanders Mill is a deadly accident waiting to happen. I live near the Gallatin
High School and walk and drive through that intersection daily. With the amount of lanes, it is extremely
dangerous to be a pedestrian or a driver. As a pedestrian, I take my life in my hands crossing the
intersection, drivers have little to no respect for pedestrians. I have been yelled at, flipped off and almost
run over by drivers multiple times. As a driver, it is very dangerous because other drivers aren't always
aware of the N/S Stop and the E/W drivers don't take precautions for being aware of the lack of stop sign
stops.
This intersection sees growing residential traffic as well as high school and elementary school traffic. The
demographic of drivers is large and varied with the growth of residential neighborhoods and especially the
high school which has introduced young, inexperienced drivers to an already dangerous intersection; add
parent drivers rushing to get to the elementary or high school, and sporting activities and pedestrians and
it's not "IF" it's "WHEN" there will be a serious accident.
This will only get worse as the neighborhood grows with the commercial development. Something needs to
be done now before someone is seriously injured or worse, dies.
To reiterate, there absolutely needs to be better traffic control at Oak & Flanders Mill intersection ASAP,
ideally a stop light or round about with pedestrian lights, at minimum a pedestrian light needs to be added
to this intersection.
