I am writing to submit public comments and my opposition to the zoning proposals to the parcel at
Story Mill and Bridger Drive.
No doubt, as Bozeman is booming with development and newcomers to the area, our need for
expansion and housing are important.
I support smart growth that builds upon the established communities we have.
I believe this parcel should be zoned for R1/R3 residential development and small scale mixed-use or
commercial (B-2, not B-2M) along Story Mill .
This would allow it to be compatible with the current surrounding communities and neighborhoods.
Zoning R5 residential mixed use high density would have a negative impact on the surrounding area
and the established communities presiding here. It would be conflicting with the current established
community.
I have lived in Bozeman for 20 years. During that time, I have lived in a combination of 6 different
apartment and houses in the city of Bozeman, largely in the downtown area. Our family chose to
move to this part of town seeking an alternative to the higher density housing and proximity to
businesses that we lived among downtown. I do not imagine that the individuals and families who
chose to move to this part of town, did so to have businesses and high density housing in their
backyard, and the associated increased traffic along roads that are teaming with kids on foot.
Prioritizing high density housing and businesses along an established “suburban” community would
not be congruent with the intent of all of the families who have chosen to abide here.
There is already significant business and housing growth in the vicinity of the cannery district,
business growth along Bridger drive and along the Story Mill park area.
I appreciate your time on this matter and hope that you consider this in making your decisions.
Sincerely,
Deb Cades
