Hello,
I am very interested in helping investigate solutions for affordable housing in Bozeman and
Gallatin County.
Here are a few of my suggestions:
1. Have we thoroughly investigated what other similar cities in the Mountain West are
doing re affordable housing? I am thinking about Bend, OR, Fort Collins, CO, Boise, ID,
Couer d' Alene, ID, Corvallis, OR, Provo UT, Jackson, WY, Park City, UT, Flagstaff, AZ.
2. For seasonal workers, could MSU rent out dorm rooms for low cost to summer workers
while school is not in session? I realize that this likely only be late May- mid-August, but
it might help some. The money would go to MSU and workers would have low-cost
housing that is unused at that time. There are a lot of buildings in a town that lay empty
for much of the year- e.g. schools, colleges, etc.
3. Working with seasonal businesses- e.g. Collaborate with Bridger Bowl to build
dormitory-like housing for the winter months and it could be used to house non-winter
month workers when not in use.
4. Expand tiny house building in the area for workers.
Just my $ 0.02
Best Regards,
Phil Bain
