I know y'all have already voted on Ordinance 2093 and I appreciate getting the chance to speak (albeit rather badly since I hate public speaking and was not prepared! ), however, unfortunately I feel the need to follow up after hearing several statements from the city commission staff. I am extremely discouraged, not because the ordinance passed; no surprise there, but becausey'all have taken comments from the public tonight and insinuated that we [the public commenters] believe we are superior and don't want to be brought down by people who live inapartments. The few adults in the room with me looked at each other in disbelief. Your statements, after the public commenting was closed, suggested that we are not okay withapartments and we need to keep our "single family 'nice' people" segregated from those "lower" than us. I just have to call out complete BS on that. Those comments were taken andtwisted to suggest that our neighbors are classists, selfish and holier than thou, which is not the way ANY of the comments were intended. We already live in a mixed resident neighborhood. We have single family homes, duplexes, condos, and multiple apartment buildings with Walton Apartments and Larkspur Commons. I have personally enjoyed visiting with people across all of these types of housing units andwould never say I'm better than another, or that I'm not going to mesh with someone living in a different type of housing. It's quite infuriating that y'all even proclaimed that! We are notsaying that we should be treated better. I don't believe a single one of the commenters tonight thinks and feels the way y'all decided to portray us as thinking and feeling. We mention kids and dogs playing in the neighborhood, not with an intent to say that wewouldn't want our kids playing with the kids of apartment buildings (that's absurd and I'm offended that y'all implied it), but to say that a high density addition will add to the traffic thatkids and pets are already dealing with. The more people, the more traffic, it's a fact. It's not about the type of people, it's about taking away the quaint feel of a community (I'll say again, one that includes apartments!). And even though 15th is a thoroughfare, it doesn't change the fact that people speed through, often don't stop for pedestrians to cross, and they seem to haveblinders on to the fact that they're driving through a neighborhood (and park, nonetheless!). The high school is a prime example of the high rate of road use through our neighborhood thatwe already encounter daily, speeding through and often trying to avoid the light at 15th & Durston by veering through the private Walton roads (Roy/Mattheson/Mae). We all knew that the field would disappear someday, but at an R3, not an R4. You could stillhave provided a daycare and affordable housing within an R3. You've already changed over another parcel to R5 further east towards 7th. What about the wetlands between these plots? What about the peacocks? ☺ Ultimately, I hope you're aware that your assumptions of the type of people who commented tonight are wrong and unmerited. ~ Frannie Moulton822 N 15th Ave
