Increasingly, on my commute to work - going on Rouse or Wallace (and Griffin would applyhere too, except that it is ongoing indeterminate closure it appears) I am finding myself spending at least twice a week facing anywhere from 10- to 20 minutes waiting for trains topass. Sometimes they go at a decent clip (and that should be the norm and is expected), other times they crawl through, and more often than I would ever hope, they stop blocking bothWallace and Rouse. Traffic backs up like crazy. How is it possible that the city can even consider zoning and approving high density housing at the NE corner of Story Mill and Bridger Canyon Dr? We will soon feel the effects of thedevelopment on the SW corner, in terms of traffic flow and deeper back ups from the trains. In addition to hearing regularly from neighbors complaining about missing appointments -medical or otherwise, being late for school, the increase risk of emergency services not getting access to our section of town when needed, etc., where is the city plan - that should predatethe approval of more housing - to ameliorate the public safety risks of trains blocking key thoroughfares from the NE edge of town to area in the case of fire, ambulance transport andsimply getting a family member to the ER? Is the city going to acknowledge and accept the liability it is creating by kowtowing to developers without a careful assessment ofinfrastructure needs in support of the significant population growth being on the cusp of approval? Please consider these important community issues, and deny the Canyon GateDevelopment request, at least until the infrastructure issues are solved in a way that keeps our community whole and safe.
