Dear City Commissioners, I am writing to voice my concern about the scope of the co-housing development planned on Wagon Wheel. If I remember correctly when this project was originally approved it was for about 20 "homes". A project of that size would put serious pressure on the surrounding streets, but to hear the project has increased to 43 homes is distressing. A person can only wonder how this proposed project has more than doubled in density with so little public awareness. It is difficult to understand how the city would make exceptions to existing codes to approve this. The road and intersection at the entrance to this project are in no way designed to handle this added traffic. The increased burden will overwhelm the current infrastructure and traffic patterns with an additional 80 cars coming and going numerous times everyday. More importantly, this area is a major thoroughfare for school children walking and riding bikes to school. There is no doubt the increased traffic will present a serious safety issue. In addition, a high density development of this size is not in any way consistent with the character and zoning of the existing neighborhoods. Most families do extensive research in areas where they plan to live based on existing zoning and surrounding neighborhoods. It is hard to understand how the city would approve and rezone this small parcel of land to squeeze in the number of buildings and parking that is planned. The size of this proposed project would place an undue burden on surrounding streets, intersections and neighbors, and I urge you to reconsider making any zoning exceptions for this project.
