I'm writing to express my concern about the new building project named "The Ives".
I live a few blocks north of the proposed building site. Before I moved here in 1997 I'd lived
in many different places and I've found that this neighborhood is literally one of the best in thecountry. It has quiet, tree-lined streets that are safe and enjoyable to walk in. Most of the
neighbors know and look out for each other. It's the kind of neighborhood that the City ofBozeman claims to favor: "safe, healthy, welcoming", etc. Unfortunately, the kind of density
represented by The Ives directly threatens the peace and safety of our neighborhood.
I would like to ask the City to think hard about the current plans for The Ives. I hope the Citywill reject the developer's request to pay cash in lieu of open space, and deny the plan to build
99 dwellings. This is a transition zone from downtown to neighborhoods with only 6-10dwellings in a block, and the surrounding neighborhoods would be far less adversely impacted
if the number of dwellings in The Ives were significantly fewer.
Finally, I hope the City will re-examine its adherence to the doctrine that density is good. Theargument that putting more housing in the city center reduces sprawl in the suburbs is specious
at best, and at worst is merely guile on the part of developers and realtors.
Thank you for taking the time to read my comment.
