My name is John Shankland and I live at 314 N. Grand Avenue.
I am writing to oppose the development action known as “The Ives.”
I live directly across the alley from the proposed development and am extremely distressed with this proposal. This
will place a huge 6 story building directly across from single family residential homes.
We will lose a considerable amount of our morning light, especially in the summer, making our properties darker
and colder.
We will lose any privacy we currently have in our backyards. We will be living in a fishbowl.
The cash for park land exchange is absolute garbage and is completely unacceptable.
The deviation for the Villard driveway is unsafe and not in the community’s best interest.
The idea that planting trees will provide privacy from a 6 story building is absurd.
The conditional use permit for backing up commercial to residential is awful. We NEED a transition.
My home is part of the historical conservation overlay district and I don’t understand how a commercial building is
allowed to back up to a region of that supposed importance.
I am extremely worried that the development construction will block vital access to the alley needed by my fellow
residents for accessing their properties.
Sincerely,
John Shankland
