During recent years I’ve become dismayed at the new construction coming from Andy Holloran’s Home Base company. This latest development, the Ives, is set to become more of the same. The Ives is grossly out of scale with neighboring residences. It will reduce sunlight to many residences, making those existing dwellings colder and less habitable for much of the year. Streets on the north and east sides of the building will become perpetualsheets of ice, making walking and bike riding ever more dangerous. I agree with the concerns of NENA, the North East Neighborhood Association. I believe the Ives must be reduced in scale to make it better mesh with existingneighborhoods. It must not block sunlight from homes already in place. The Ives should be a transitional building to adjacent R2 neighborhoods. The Ives should contribute to, not detract, from our sense of place. The most prominent transitional feature, a stepped back façade, is placed on an aspect of the building that doesn’t help neighboring structures feel the sun’s warmth during winter. The stepped-back façade should be one floor lower and placed along the entire northern elevation in order to allow sunlight to neighbors during winter. Greg Beardslee 221 N. Church Ave. Bozeman
