My wife, Sandy, and I received a parking ticket Sep 13, 2021 after parking in the downtown parking garage.
We had inserted our credit card and had selected "1) $1/hr: 1st 2 hours free". We understood, based on
our knowledge of the English language, that we would be charged a dollar per hour over 2 hours. After over
2 hours of dining and shopping downtown, we went directly to our car and drove home.
We subsequently learned it is necessary to either know in advance how long you will be parked or RETURN
to the parking pay station a SECOND time.
This is an unacceptable, non-intuitive, anti common sense parking payment system. You can't piss off and
fine a significant percentage of patrons with a misleading message on the pay station screen.
We paid the fine and tried to state our case for improving our parking garage payment system. Any
successful business utilizes its front line employees (who directly interface with the public) to hear
problems and complaints. Unfortunately, our complaint was not noted. Instead, we needed to write down a
website and take the time to write this.
Please take action to avoid treating our citizens like this (faulty pay system, unfair fine, and refusal to
acknowledge the complaint by staff who collect the fines)
Use our $20 plus that of thousands? of other mislead parking garage users to upgrade the system.
