Balloon-Framed Gable End Wall
(c)IDDI 2015 - dwj
The Building Designer may decide to design a
balloon-framed end wall, which eliminates the need for a
Gable End Frame (see figure B3-41). If a Gable End
Frame is used, it must match the profile of the adjacent
trusses so that proper bottom chord plane bracing can
be installed (see figure B3-42A) unless special bracing is
designed to support the end wall.
* CONTRACTOR NOTE:
ICE BARRIER IS REQUIRED (R905.2.7.1)
Shall extend from lowest edges of all
roof surfaces to a point at least 24"
inside the exterior wall line of the
building.
Requirement may be met with:
- Titanium Peel and Stick
- Weatherwatch
- Tarco Ice and Weather Armour
- CCW Water and Ice Protection

Connection Detail
* Notes:
1) 2-ply trusses to be connected together with
10d (0.131"x3") nails as follows:
Top chords: 2x4 -1 row at 4" o.c.
Bottom chords: 2x10 - 2 rows staggered at 5"
o.c.
Webs: 2x4 - 1 row at 0-9-0 o.c.
10) One LUGT2 USP connector recommended
to connect truss to bearing walls due to UPLIFT
at jt(s) 1 and 11. This connection is for uplift
only and does not consider lateral forces.

Attic Venting Calculation
Attic = approx. xxxx sq.ft.
(floor of attic x height / 2)
- calc. = 1300 (either with 80% ridge venting
or vapor barrier installed on the
warm-in-winter side of ceiling)
- xx sq.ft. of venting required
- ridge venting = xx sq.ft.
(length of ridge x 1 sq.ft.)
- 18x24 gable end vents or equivalent may
be added if desired
