Fourteen years ago I drove across the country from Boston to join MG2 Architects in Seattle. I choose Seattle because of my affinity for the outdoors, connection to nature, and its maturing architectural community. The Cascades and Northern Rockies now became the backdrop for my accelerating career where I designed and permitted my first retail project in the city of Bozeman. My career continued to progressed toward a wide variety of projects type encompassing, residential mixed used, retail, Single family homes, etc. The clients I worked with have had national presence and I navigated through planning approval processes in all four corners of the country. I’m hoping that my breadth of experience as an applicant will prove valuable to the commission as I’ve participated in both good and bad processes. Fast forward 15 years and I now live in Bozeman where I continue to cultivate my love for the outdoors. I’ve transitioned away from project execution, and am now in charge of develop the real-estate, design, and construction standards leveraged to support Starbucks growing portfolio of store. I believe that growth is healthy for a community and should be encouraged based on a comprehensive plan that’s both aspiration and protects the quality of our communities. I’m a champion of purposeful development; especially when its considers local context, preserves history, supports a holistic plan and compliments its environment. I’m applying for this position because I love this city and believe that I can act as an impartial representative to help sculpt the future of our communities. The City of Bozeman strongly values diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Describe any efforts you have engaged in to expand your understanding of DEI. I choose to Work at Starbucks because the company has built its success on people, relationships, cooperation, and cultural celebration. It is a company rooted in inclusivity, which promotes community, and celebrates diversity. Throughout my career I have participated in a number of workshops and annual trainings used to bring awareness to DEI. Most notably was the May 29th training where Starbucks closed all stores for a day to participate in bias training in response to the 2018 Philadelphia discrimination incident. More recently; my team requalified all of our Tier 1 and Tier 2 A&E consultants using diversity and Inclusion as one of our verticals for qualification. Our Starbucks Diversity and Inclusion program helps to encourage equity within our various industries while placing a premium on qualified minority owned companies. Additionally; my team is developing inclusive design standards for all new stores which will go live in 2022. The mission for this work is to simply be the most inclusive retailer in the world by developing standards that go “beyond ADA” and a build a culture of belonging. I’ve been fortunate enough to work for an industry leading company that prioritizes DEI. I’m sure the commission will benefit from my knowledge base, and continue to learn with me as the and continue to grow in this space as Starbucks base, grow with continue to References: Please provide name, phone, and email contact information for two references.
