Thank you for the opportunity to discuss my personal and professional experiences as it relates to the
mission of the Economic Vitality Board.
I bought my first home under a program sponsored by New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation
and Development (HPD). As a former HPD housing recipient, I understand the benefit affordable housing
programs have to individuals as well as communities. The building I lived in not only benefited me
personally, but it provided the neighborhood with its first-ever non-bodega-style grocery store where
healthy food options at affordable prices could be purchased within the community. It was also one of the
most diverse buildings in Manhattan: we had residents of every ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual
orientation, age group, and social economic class (baring high-income individuals who were not eligible to
participate in the program) - all living together and working towards building a thriving community.
HPD has had enormous success in promoting and expanding the quality and affordability of housing. Once
you provide working people with affordable housing, they’re able to afford child care, grow professionally,
and directly give back to their own families and local communities. I would love to see how Bozeman could
expand its affordable housing while simultaneously driving economic opportunities across all income
spectrums.
I am a small business owner in the arts. I co-own an independent music label called Wonderwild Records.
We’re directly funded and supported by Sony Music. I’m passionate about music especially, but also the
arts broadly; I studied and fell in love with Art History in college. In addition to its contributions to the
culture, the arts directly enhance an area’s quality of life and desirability. It is an indispensable part of every
thriving community.
Prior to starting my independent record label and talent management business, I worked for Warner Music
for over a decade, including becoming one of Warner Music’s youngest executives at the age of 25. While
at Warner Music, I was recognized by our Human Resources department for leading/recruiting/mentoring
the most inclusive/diverse department within Warner Music. The recognition happened during a diversity
audit where Warner’s HR department uncovered that I had the most diverse hiring practices of any hiring
manager in the entire organization, something I was and am still very proud of.
I have always been interested in public advocacy. I previously directly lobbied the US Congress on behalf of
Independent labels/artists and sound recording owners and spearheaded efforts to streamline the visa
process for touring musicians. My work led to the drafting of the B.E.A.T.S Act, a piece of legislation that
was introduced into the 114th Congress. I was also an active member of the musicFIRST coalition, an
organization that aimed to establish a sound recording performance right in the United States for artists
and their labels. I authored a series of position papers submitted to the US Copyright Office advocating on
behalf of independent artists and their rights.
Beyond music, I met with current Governor of NY (then Lt Governor) Kathy Hochul and NY state legislators
on behalf of the Child-Parent Safety Act, a bill which legalized surrogacy and alternative reproduction rights
in NY State. The bill passed and is a victory for women struggling with fertility and for LGBTQ
couples/anyone who falls outside of a traditional family structure.
I am very happy to see sustainability and climate change action as a part of the agenda. There are few
things more important than protecting our planet from further harm.
The City of Bozeman strongly values diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Describe any efforts you have
engaged in to expand your understanding of DEI.
See above for some of the ways I’ve championed for more diversity in my professional life. The most
important thing any of us can do to create more diversity of opportunity is to invite more voices to the
table. Representation matters. Listen to people that aren’t like you. Listen to their goals and their concerns
and give all voices a chance to be heard.
