(○) Sustainability Board Do You Live in the City Limits? (Some positions do require you live within Bozeman city limits while others do not.) (○) Yes How long have you lived in the Bozeman Area? (○) 1-5 years Have you ever served on a City or County Board or Commission? (○) No Please describe your professional and personal experiences, interest, and qualifications that make you a good fit for this board. I am a good fit for this role due to my topic of study, current job, and experience with sitting on a board in the past. I am a senior at Montana State University studying environmental policy with a minor in economics. With my education, I wish to advocate for sustainable changes within local governments and companies. Currently, I serve as a sustainability coordinator for the Office of Sustainability at Montana State University. In this position, I perform public outreach through social media, research and implement sustainability programs, and work with student groups and organizations to further sustainability efforts on campus. This summer, I also had the opportunity to intern at Cottonwood Law Center. This internship expanded my knowledge of public outreach and environmental advocacy. In addition to education and jobs that prepare me for this position, I have also served on a board in the past. When I was a freshman in high school, I served on a grant review board for the State of Montana's Fish, Wildlife, and Parks Department. Finally, growing up in Montana has informed me of the attitudes and tendencies of Montanans toward government and environmentalism. The City of Bozeman strongly values diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Describe any efforts you have engaged in to expand your understanding of DEI. I firmly believe that equity and sustainability are directly linked. Environmental racism and the burden of sustainability that is placed on lower social classes cannot be ignored. Through my education at MSU, I have taken classes about the US-Mexico border, community development, and the economics of poverty. Additionally, as a sophomore, I was a senator for the Associated Students of MSU (ASMSU). In this position, I sponsored one resolution supporting the addition of an Africana Studies course, and another advocating for each department at the school to create a food security scholarship. While I know I have a long way to go in learning about DEI, I have made a strong effort to include these topics in my education and advocacy efforts.
