Which position are you applying for?
(○) Sustainability Board
Do You Live in the City Limits? (Some positions do require you live within Bozeman city limits while
others do not.)
(○) Yes
How long have you lived in the Bozeman Area?
(○) 1-5 years
Have you ever served on a City or County Board or Commission?
(○) No
Please describe your professional and personal experiences, interest, and qualifications that make you
a good fit for this board.
For over the past 15 years, my professional career has been focused on advising renewable fuel companies
and, more recently, food and ag companies on strategies to lower carbon footprints, etc.
I have advised American Airlines on their sustainable aviation fuel strategy. We have advised an agtech
company on creating nitrogen credits for their product that reduced the use of synthetic fertilizer. We are
currently working with a company that is growing camelina in Montana for use in renewable diesel.
I would appreciate the opportunity to contribute my experience to the Bozeman community. Given my
experience over several decades, I can bring realism to assessing goals and projects. Unfortunately, some of
these projects and technologies do not work, so it's important to ask the right questions upfront.
The City of Bozeman strongly values diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Describe any efforts you have
engaged in to expand your understanding of DEI.
DEI is an important aspect of public service (and private industry). While I've had formal training in diversity
at a prior job, I would say that seeking and respecting diversity has always been part of my life. I am married
to an ethnic minority, so our family reflects diversity but also have awareness as part of our daily life. For
about a decade and a half, I served on the board of a cultural exchange institution that organized and
facilitated student and graduate internships throughout Asia - both in large cities and rural communities.
Also, living in Asia for about 4 years of my life broadened my perspectives on cultural and socioeconomic
differences.
Regarding sustainability, some of these options are expensive and not available to everyone. Less so in
Bozeman, but elsewhere there are keen issues around environmental justice such as access to clean air,
water, parks, etc.

Is there any other information that you feel we need to know?
I feel that it is increasingly important to contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle. We witnessed this
summer how the effects of climate change thousands of miles away can affect our health here in Bozeman.
It is important that all of us find ways to contribute to a sustainable future for our children and
grandchildren. I believe there are lots of small ways to affect climate change. Some of them are not
expensive. It will take a collective effort to make a meaningful difference.
If you have a disability that requires assistance or need accommodations, please contact our ADA
Coordinator, Mike Gray, at 582-3232 (TDD 582-2301).
Please note that for most Citizen Advisory Boards, materials are distributed electronically for each
meeting.
Your application and all information submitted is considered a public record. All applications are
included in the City Commission’s Meeting materials for consideration which are electronically
archived and available to the public.
Thank you,
City Of Bozeman
