Describe any efforts you have engaged in to expand your understanding of DEI. My upbringing in the Ironbound section of Newark, New Jersey, exposed me to ethnic, racial and language diversity from a young age. My early adult journeys exposed me to new ways of thinking about socioeconomics, religion, sexual orientation, abilities and learning styles. Today I continue to learn about gender identity and expression and philosophical differences, e.g. how we cannot predict how someone might think about one issue based solely on how they think about another. Ultimately, we are all humans. Barriers are most easily overcome when we get to know each others as individuals. My current understanding is that equity strives for policies to promote fairness and eliminate barriers of underserved populations while inclusion is the action piece so people feel authentically welcomed into processes, activities and places. My past participation in institutions has given me the opportunity to receive training in aspects of DEI. Now, I examine these issues on my own and welcome more opportunities through continuing education. I am proud that Bozeman is making a strong statement of its value for DEI and I strive to embody the same values in my life. It is not always easy but it is always worth it. (○) Yes How did you hear about this board or vacancy? first at an RPAB meeting then the Bozeman Daily Chronicle Is there any other information that you feel we need to know? I believe Bozeman has the capacity - and the duty - to be a regional and national leader in climate-smart conservation of natural resources and ecological diversity with an eye on livelihood and recreational sustainability. I am motivated to be part of this effort and submit my application to be considered for the Sustainability Board or, alternatively, the Urban Parks and Forestry Board as the City Commission sees fit.
