(○) Sustainability Board Do You Live in the City Limits? (Some positions do require you live within Bozeman city limits while others do not.) (○) Yes How long have you lived in the Bozeman Area? (○) 1-5 years Have you ever served on a City or County Board or Commission? (○) No Please describe your professional and personal experiences, interest, and qualifications that make you a good fit for this board. Professional experiences and qualifications: - After graduating law school in France, I attended Vermont Law School because they had the best environmental law programs. Among others, I took classes about Climate Change, Endangered Species, Legal Adaptation to Climate Change, Environmental Law, but also Leadership and Communication classes. - I was an active member of the Environmental Law Society, and I was the LLM Senator during my second year. We organized pick-up trash days, fundraisers for kids education and passed bills within our school to make it "greener". - I was a Legal Intern at the Center For Large Landscape Conservation when I moved to Bozeman in 2019. - Since 2019, I have been helping The Ranger bike event in Vermont to be the most environmentally friendly possible. - I am now the Drafting Paralegal at The Rains Law Firm, based in Greenwood Village, Colorado. There is no direct link with environmental law or activism, but I try to educate my colleagues about environmental issues and solutions. Personal experiences and interest: - I am French and I had the privilege to grow up in a very environmentally-friendly focused family. We did not have much, but the food I ate mainly originated from my family's garden or was very local. We had almost no waste. We always chose walking or biking over driving. - Fun fact: when I was 14, my Art teacher let us do a "free project" at the end of the year. I can remember her confused face when among paintings and drawings, she saw my "Green Neighborhood Model" that I had made from various recycled items at home. She did not really appreciate the "art" but she did appreciate the research and ideas that went in. - I am trying to have the least impact on the planet with my daily actions. I also read a lot about environmental solutions and innovations. My husband and I always brainstorm about that. The City of Bozeman strongly values diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Describe any efforts you have engaged in to expand your understanding of DEI. I am pleasantly surprised by this question - thank you for making DEI one of your steps of the applying process. That is why I love Bozeman so much! - The Ranger bike event that I mentioned above is run by my husband. It is a fundraiser and we donate a part of the proceeds to Vermont Adaptive, an organization that help people with disabilities accessing and enjoying the outdoors. - Since I moved to the US, I have been learning a lot about Native Peoples. My former flatmate works with the Blackfeet Nation, and he has taught me a lot. Another friend has helped me understand the lands and inclusivity. More broadly, I found a great community here that welcomed the white woman that I am and helped me to educate myself. - I now try to educate other people around me about these topics, especially when I go back to France. The Bozeman City Charter, voted in by the citizens of Bozeman in 2008, requires annual ethics training. If appointed, do you understand you will be expected to take online and in person ethics training? (○) Yes How did you hear about this board or vacancy? My sister told me about it because she thought it would be a good fit. Is there any other information that you feel we need to know? I am very interested in carbon sequestration. The importance of having trees and plants in a city is underrated, although Bozeman is doing great on that point. I am inspired by the European cities that are bike and pedestrian friendly, and help the population switch to renewable energy transportation. I have seen how Paris has changed these last years: the will of like- minded people can accomplish great things when trusted. I think by now you get the point. I want the best for this community, and my past experiences have provided me with knowledge that I would love to use in the best interest of Bozemanites. It would be an honor to serve as a member of the Sustainable Committee. I am very curious about the other candidates you have, as they must all be amazing. Thank you for your time and for what you do daily for our beautiful city. Sincerely, Alison If you have a disability that requires assistance or need accommodations, please contact our ADA Coordinator, Mike Gray, at 582-3232 (TDD 582-2301).
