Pedestrian Safety Traffic Commission, approximately four years Please describe your professional and personal experiences, interest, and qualifications that make you a good fit for this board. I serve as an elected member of the Bozeman School District board of trustees and have long been interested and involved in getting our children safely to school. I also run a nonprofiit, nonpartisan news and science service focused on our environment and health, particularly climate change and our built environment. Transportation and non-motorized access has long been a matter of professional interest. Finally, coordination between the city and school district is essential to the overall success and well-being of this community. As the school district's representative on the soon-to-be-former Pedestrian Traffic Safety Commission, I have seen first-hand how discussions at the committee-level can help citizens and make for a healthier civic process. I would like to continue to serve as that bridge for the community on transportation issues. The City of Bozeman strongly values diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Describe any efforts you have engaged in to expand your understanding of DEI. I run an organization dedicated to challenging injustice. One facet of our mission is to empower people in local communities to address issues that affect the quality of their lives. We especially encourage the participation of those who have traditionally had little or no voice in our society. To achieve that, we have launched and run programs supporting scientists from historically under- represented communities, and we actively seek out and publish reporting and commentary from diverse groups and communities. That reporting and those efforts have been recognized nationally by various groups. Closer to home, I have strongly advocated as a schools trustee for the district's current equity work, which has involved two working committees, countless public hearings and community listening sessions spanning nearly 25 hours. I am the board of trustees' representative on one of the two committees working to update our equity policy and close long-standing district achievement gaps, particularly around graduation. Closing those achievement gaps, I firmly believe, is one of the most important things the district needs to do to meet its mission of ensuring that every child succeeds.
