(○) Yes How long have you lived in the Bozeman Area? (○) Less than 1 year Have you ever served on a City or County Board or Commission? (○) No Please describe your professional and personal experiences, interest, and qualifications that make you a good fit for this board. As a student studying ecology at MSU, I am uniquely qualified to inform on both the environmental issues which come before the Board and the importance of its subject matter to students. I am an active user of the Bozeman park system and have on the ground experience with urban park work, having spent many hours volunteering on trails and cleanups in high school. My studies in ecology have given me the scientific and policy knowledge necessary to provide useful advice to the City of Bozeman. I am also familiar with local Gallatin Valley issues, such as the Gallatin Valley Land Trust's current work expanding Burke Park and the City's work developing the recently released Triangle Trail Plan. I would bring not only experience but a unique perspective. MSU students care deeply about parks, trails and sustainability. Many students chose MSU because of the outstanding environment and outdoor recreation opportunities. Students successfully lobbied for the establishment of an Office of Sustainability, and the student senate recently passed a resolution calling for "rapid, sustained and immediate climate action." As a member of the Urban Parks and Forestry Board, I would combine my experience in ecology and public lands and my familiarity with student issues to help "strengthen and foster the wellbeing of the community-at-large" as called for in the Board's establishing resolution. Thank you for your sincere consideration! The City of Bozeman strongly values diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Describe any efforts you have engaged in to expand your understanding of DEI. Bozeman may be one of Montana's most diverse cities, but we still have a long way to go to be fully inclusive. As an MSU student, I am familiar with the challenges and opportunities presented by DEI efforts. MSU is significantly more diverse than Montana as a whole. As a member of the Board, I would advocate for equitable and environmentally just policies for our community, such as expanding access to trail systems for lower-income and more diverse neighborhoods which have been historically underserved. I would especially focus on listening to the voices of those native to this area, such as the Apsáalooke (Crow), Séliš (Salish), Niitsitapi (Blackfeet), and other indigenous peoples.
