(○) Yes How long have you lived in the Bozeman Area? (○) 11 years or more Have you ever served on a City or County Board or Commission? (○) No Please describe your professional and personal experiences, interest, and qualifications that make you a good fit for this board. As a very long time resident, I've grown up in Bozeman using the trails and parks for many years as a source of transportation and recreation on a regular basis. The value, care, and future acquisition of these areas is of great importance to me on many levels. It would be an honor to have the opportunity to participate on this advisory board. These areas are probably seeing a record number of people using them, and will continue to be heavily used for the foreseeable future. As a long time bike commuter and outdoor enthusiast, I have a vested interest in wanting the City's parks and trails to be cared for and prioritized as a part of creating a healthy community. For the past few years, I've volunteered my time pulling knapweed out of Peets Hill and Story Mill Community Park, and also along trails maintained by GVLT. I've done this because I care about the future impact that noxious weeds can have, and I believe that ongoing maintenance of all our parks, trails, and urban forests encourages people from all parts of Bozeman to enjoy these areas, and to hopefully respect and care for them. As an artist, I'm interested in furthering some of the fantastic pop-up sculpture events, and other art/cultural events that will draw a larger diversity of viewers and users to these areas. I would advocate for some of these events to be located in some of the newer parks as a draw for the neighborhoods nearby. I have completed two levels of the Master Gardener courses at MSU, and I have served on different boards over the years: Beall Park Art Center, The Community Food Co-op, and I currently serve as vice president on the Gallatin Gardeners Club board, a non-profit organization that provides grant money for horticultural education and gardening projects in Bozeman. The City of Bozeman strongly values diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Describe any efforts you have engaged in to expand your understanding of DEI. I worked at the Community Food Co-op for over 25 years, doing graphic design, as well as cashiering and customer service. My coworkers were the whole spectrum of LGBTQ+, and there was generally more racial diversity there than one would typically encounter in Bozeman. I thoroughly enjoyed working with all the diversity there; it was a safe and compassionate place to work, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to be a part of that environment. The customers I interacted with were also a cross section of people in Bozeman, from well educated and wealthy, to customers who were unhoused and sometimes mentally unstable. I'm grateful for the time I got to spend working with the public, I feel it's a valuable skill to be able to look at multiple points of view and develop empathy for the whole mass of humanity that lives here.
