I am writing as a concerned Bozeman city about yet another application for an exceedingly (6 stories!) tall mixed
use development at the corner of Villard and Willson. It is my hope that lessons were learned from the Black and
Olive development that has ruined the transition from historic downtown to the historic south side. There are
townhomes going in in this neighborhood area that align well the Bozeman Community Plan (Goal N-1), but this
bland cookie cutter style undoubtedly high end (because of the particular builder who is proposing this) defies the
style and character of the surrounding neighborhood and the historic nature of Willson Ave near Main St.
I understand the plan for infill in downtown, but that does not mean the Director of Community Development has to
sacrifice what makes downtown Bozeman so special. Please do not add another hi rise of high end luxury condos
and cookie cutter commercial fronts that we all know cater largely to out of town second home owners or visitors to
downtown Bozeman. We have luxury (albeit rather architecturally lacking) hotels in downtown to serve this
clientele). It does not support the Community Plan Goal N-4 as it will continue to erode our town’s sense of place,
support for working community members who long to live in our city. Please rethink this trend of creating tall
blocky, large mass buildings stacked next to each other looming over downtown with no supporting green space. It
does not share any of the characteristics of the Bozeman we know and love.
With respect and hope that you will hear community voices,
Nancy Cornwell
