RE: Request for Qualifi cations Architectural Services
Bozeman Fire Station #2 Relocation
Bozeman, Montana
Members of the Selection Committee:
We are honored to submit our Statement of Professional Qualifi cations for the Bozeman Fire Station #2 Relocation project. As
we all know, Bozeman is a fantastic place to live. We are all blessed with Bozeman’s immense beauty, seasonal activities, and
above all fantastic people. The ThinkOne team is incredibly excited for this opportunity to assist the City of Bozeman in creating
a new home for those serving our community.
ThinkOne has assembled a world class team of design professionals to assist in this eff ort. We have decades of experience with
each team member and know they share our commitment to client service and design excellence. Each member of our consul-
tant team has direct and specifi c experience with Fire Station Design.
A key member of our consultant team is Brian Harris with TCA Architects out of Seattle, WA. Brian is truly a leader in Fire Sta-
tion Design, having programmed and designed over 180 facilities across the United States. Brian is also heavily involved with
the Fire Services through training seminars designed to assist Fire Departments as they strive to address new demands placed
on First Responders.
Most recently, the ThinkOne team, worked together on both the City of Bozeman Fire Station #3 / 911 Dispatch facility and
Fire Station #1 (under construction). We also recently completed Central Valley Fire District #1 in Belgrade. We are currently
designing two new public safety facilities for the Yellowstone Club in Big Sky. We are confi dent our team off ers an unmatched
depth of experience for your project.
ThinkOne and our entire team of designers and engineers are passionate about sustainable design. Energy effi ciency and
environmental sensitivity are integral to our fi rm’s design culture. Each project provides a new opportunity for innovation and
creative design solutions. We view sustainable design as not only the ethically right thing to do, but as an opportunity to create
richer, more powerful architecture.
We realize to be successful we must deliver a project that fi ts into the fabric and context of our Bozeman community. It must be
a facility that is functional, effi cient, durable, and sustainable. It must also be safe, comfortable, and operationally excellent for
people working there. When complete, it must deliver exceptional value and be a source of pride for the Bozeman community.
This is a tall order, yet we know these goals are within our reach. We pledge to deliver architecture that never loses sight of its
critical mission to serve Bozeman residents and visitors to our community.
Sincerely,
William A. Hanson, President
ThinkOne
On behalf of ThinkOne, William A. Hanson will authorize all agreements with the City of Bozeman. Please contact Bill for any

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
At ThinkOne, the most important component of the buildings we design are the people who live, work, and interact with them. The
relationships of trust we build with our clients and the communities we serve are our greatest reward for the work we do. Our
clients inspire us, drive us to be better and encourage us to innovate. They are also why we prioritize function fi rst, ensuring our
clients ultimately have spaces that make their work highly effi cient, productive, and enjoyable. Our work must provide buildings
that people enjoy working in as much as looking at.
Our moto is simple: Put people first, and exceptional projects will follow.
Over the past 15 years, a large portion of our work has been public service-related projects serving Fire Departments, Law En-
forcement, Military and Emergency Operations / 911 facilities. Of all clients we serve, service personnel and fi rst responders repre-
sent the core values we strive for as a fi rm. Knowing the importance of the job they do reinforces our desire to create buildings that
serve their mission while enhancing the work experience for those that serve.
Fire Station Design has become a key aspect of our fi rm expertise over the past decade. We had the great pleasure of working
with the City of Bozeman on the design of both Fire Station #3, and the relocated Fire Station #1 currently under construction as
part of the Bozeman Public Safety Center. In addition, we recently completed the Central Valley Fire District #1 Headquarters in
Belgrade. We are currently designing a new Public Safety Facility housing a new Fire Station for the Yellowstone Club, and will be
designing a secondary fi re station for the Yellowstone Club in the coming year.
Each of these projects have presented unique design challenges, but through each experience we have honed our craft to provide
our clients with highly effi cient, functional, and serviceable facilities. Most importantly, each of these facilities are safe, wonderful
living environments for Fire Fighters.
For your project we have assembled a fantastic group of design professionals that share our philosophy of service and have in-
credible experience with Fire Station Design. We have used the same key design and engineering consultants for all our Fire Sta-
tion projects and know they understand the functional and operational considerations that make these facilities work at the highest
level. We have complete confi dence you will be pleased our team, our approach and our dedication to serving you.

FIRM OVERVIEW | ThinkOne - Architect of Record
ThinkOne is a Bozeman based full service architectural practice serving clients throughout the western United States. We
maintain a steadfast commitment to providing the highest level of professional service to our clients. This has been achieved
by staying true to our philosophy of putting people fi rst in our designs.
Our fi rm is unique in being one of the few fi rms that have called Bozeman home since the 1980’s. Originally founded by Jerry
Taylor, as Taylor Architects, in 1985. Bill Hanson joined Jerry in 1989 and the pair worked together to build one of the lead
commercial / institutional fi rms in the region by the turn of the century. In 2007, Jerry Taylor retired, and Bill assumed sole
ownership, re-imagining the fi rm as ThinkOne.
Over the years, we have been blessed with an incredible workforce that have unmatched dedication to the fi rm and most im-
portantly, to their profession. We currently have seven full time employees working for the Architecture company. Many of our
architectural staff have been with the fi rm for more than ten years. We have another three staff working for our Construction
Management operation.
FINANCIAL CAPACITY
From a business standpoint we have always been fi scally conservative. Having survived the economic downturns of the
1980’s and early 2000’s, this approach certainly aided in our success. We carry zero debt and maintain six month’s expenses
in reserve. We know our staff are the heartbeat of our operation and are steadfast in our commitment to maintaining our work-
force through the down times.
Our annual volume for professional services varies greatly depending on project types. Over the past fi ve years we have
maintained a consistent gross billing volume between $2 - $5 million for design services. We have maintained Professional Er-
rors and Omissions Insurance for over 20 years. Currently, we maintain $2 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate for
our E&O Coverage. We have recently increased our General Liability Coverage to $4 million to meet recent contract require-
ments.
CLAIMS
Over the past ten years, ThinkOne has not been involved in any litigation involving claims against our fi rm. We take great
pride in the quality of the work we produce and understand the information needed in our drawings to clearly direct the con-
struction process. In addition, our connection to the construction industry through our Construction Management branch has
enlightened our approach as designers. We know the challenges of understanding and interpreting design documents and
strive to produce drawings that clearly describe the project scope.

Central Valley Fire District, Station #1 - Concept Design Sketch and Completed Facility
| Request for Qualifi cations| Bozeman Fire Station 2 |
Based on the experience TCA has gained through the
planning, funding and design of well over 350+ fi re service
facilities, we will bring our institutional knowledge and
decades of lessons learned to the City’s projects. From
experience we recognize that there is a civic, community,
operational, and programmatic design thread common
to facilities of this nature. With this understanding, we
believe the design of fi re facilities begins with a clear
understanding of the community, users, unique opera-
tional needs based on departmental culture, and area of
response. Being mindful of national trends, NFPA stan-
dards, security, technology, gender issues, accessibility,
high performance building technologies and more, we
deliver forward thinking multi-generational facilities. From
our body of work, we understand that balancing cost,
operations, community impacts, and security are only
a handful of the issues that inform the decision-making
process. Having a process for analyzing this information
in an effi cient, clear and meaningful way is vital, and we
understand many of the questions that will need to be
explored as we continue to work with the City on these
important facilities.
Beyond our extensive portfolio of fi re stations in Wash-
ington state, TCA has also collaborated on the design
of dozens of fi re facilities across the country in a dozen
states. TCA is sought out nationwide to provide seminars,
lectures, workshops on a variety of fi re station design top-
ics from cross-contamination to Net Zero Energy design.
We have provided pro bono consulting to hundreds of Fire
Departments through our 1-on-One Fire Station Design
Seminars for the past 10 years sponsored by Fire House
and Fire Chief magazines (sample publications pictured
below). As a testament to our expertise, in 2018, the
Washington State Fire Chief’s Association elected Princi-
pal Brian Harris as their Director of Fire Facility Education.
We will bring all this expertise to your projects.
Nationally, TCA is engaged in eff orts to bring a greater under-
standing to the inherently complex risks within fi re stations.
Since Washington is a “presumptive state,” addressing oc-
cupational exposure in stations is critical. TCA has champi-
oned and been involved in eff orts to reduce Covid-19 impacts,
cross-contamination, MRSA, slide pole accidents, and cancer
causing chemicals and particulates in stations. TCA’s facili-
ties for the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority were models
for the “Healthy In, Healthy Out” study to encourage safe and
healthy practices from a fi refi ghter’s fi rst day to retirement. Over
a dozen TCA stations have been surface tested by a Univer-
sity of Washington Field Research Group as part of a Western
Fire Chiefs’ partnership. It is critical to address not only NFPA
standards relative to infection control, health related fi tness, and
maintenance of PPE’s but also look at hot zone design strate-
gies to bring awareness to containing and reducing exposure to
contaminates. TCA won two 2020 Fire Station Design Innovation
Awards for fi refi ghter health and safety at Central Valley Fire
Station 1 from Firehouse Magazine and F.I.E.R.O.

BOZEMAN PUBLIC SAFETY CENTER
Bozeman, Montana
Bozeman Public Safety Center is a multi-faceted, centralized station
housing Bozeman’s Fire Station #1, Police Headquarters, Municipal
Courts, Attorney Offi ces and Victim Services. The design strategy is
driven by the relationship between departments and the daily interactions
and operations of the facility. The layout of the facility is optimal for staff
security, however maintains an inviting public lobby, community room
and circulation to the second level Municipal Court functions. The design
team prioritized the need to strike a delicate balance of creating welcom-
ing public facade yet making precautions for the safety and well-being all
occupants.
Essential to the design of the facility is site development and creating a
secure portion of the site for Police Department vehicles as well as secure
parking for staff members. Additionally, the site is designed to accommo-
date large fi re trucks and emergency response vehicles with direct access
onto Rouse Ave. Overall the development of the site plays a crucial role in
the daily operations of all building occupants.
Bozeman Public Safety Center was designed in collaboration with TCA
out of Seattle, Washington and Anderson Mason Dale out of Denver,
Colorado. ThinkOne has a great working relationship with multiple fi rms
across the country. Through our collaborative eff ort, we strive for excep-
tional functionality and aesthetically pleasing, timeless architecture.

Central Valley Fire District - Station #1 was completed in June of 2019. This unique
station is revolutionary in its approach to isolating environmental contaminants. By
designing a stand-alone building for vehicle and fi re fi ghter decontamination, the fi re-
fi ghters are able to isolate cancer causing pollutants in a separate building, allowing
the living and work environment to remain as clean as possible. Central Valley Fire
District, Station #1 is the fi rst of its kind in the United States.
Central Valley won Firehouse Magazine’s 2020 Design Innovation award as well as
F.I.E.R.O. Fire Station Award for Innovative Design.
As a project team, we utilized an integrated design approach, including utilizing a
GCCM from the early design phase. With a GCCM on-board early, we were able to
accurately track expenses during design to ultimately deliver the project within an
expedited timeline and within budget.

YELLOWSTONE CLUB
PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING 1
Big Sky, Montana
Currently in design development, the Yellowstone Club’s new Public Safety Building
will provide critical emergency services for Yellowstone Club members. This unique
site demands a creative design approach, as the facility is nestled into a steep hillside,
providing access to the Apparatus Bay on the lower level, and public access to offi ces
and living quarters on the third level.
One unique element of this station is the four story training tower. Designed to emulate
various conditions, fi refi ghters will have the opportunity to train in life-like conditions.
Smoke, water, heights, stairs, balconies, fi re sprinkler lines and heads, etc. will all aid
in the training of their fi refi ghter crew.

ThinkOne has maintained a very stable and consistent workload over the past
thirty-fi ve years. Our focus has been and remains public sector commercial and
institutional architecture. Often these projects involve very lengthy development
schedules due to funding cycles, bond approvals, or legislative action. As a result,
we continually strive to strategically stagger our project load to span the gaps in
development schedule and provide a consistent workload for our staff .
In review of the Bozeman Fire Station 2 Relocation project and its anticipated
schedule, we see this fi tting perfectly into our current and future workload. We cur-
rently have several major projects in the construction phase. Due to this stagger
of workload, we will have capacity to tackle new projects in the programming and
design stage of development immediately.
Looking forward into the rest of 2021 and 2022, the Bozeman Fire Station 2 project
would fi t a great staffi ng window for our team.
