We are thrilled at the opportunity to share who we are and how we can help guide your project.WE HAVE CLARITY OF MISSION - We will design a legacy station fitting with Bozeman’s community context. We have lived and worked in Bozeman for almost thirty years; we understand the demographics and culture of the Gallatin Valley. We design stations that reflect the pride and honor of those who have served in the past while preserving flexibility and durability for future generations. This station is an opportunity to build on the Bozeman Fire Department’s legacy from the historic Bozeman Hook and Ladder Company to now, while being responsible stewards of the resources entrusted to you by our community. As we have done with numerous other fire stations, we will create a landmark station worthy of acclaim for attentiveness to our community.WE WILL HELP YOU GO FURTHER - We have a reputation for leading the industry in innovative fire station design. Whether it’s individual bunk and shower rooms for crew gender flexibility and diversity, or charring exterior siding to naturally protect the wood, our team will innovate and bring the best solutions forward. Listening to your aspirations and requirements, we will gather information to clearly define goals, then think creatively to align solutions that are innovative, efficient, and go beyond expectations. WE WILL BRING YOUR VISION TO LIFE - Our team will listen first, engaging your stakeholder groups to build an understanding of your goals and vision. We will also draw on what we know about Bozeman and the site at Montana State University. Then through an iterative process we will develop a concept that brings it to life. We know the challenges of bond campaigns, and we will use our experience to develop a clear, achievable project that connects with the community and puts you on a path to a successful bond measure. Hennebery Eddy has the capabilities to produce 3D renderings, vignettes, graphics, and video fly-throughs that help you tell the unique story of the new Bozeman Station 2 to support your bond campaign. “It is hoped that each year of the future will bring more improvement both in efficiency and equipment.” – D.E. Moser, Bozeman Fire Department, 1909This is a wonderful journey you are embarking on; we look forward to working with you.Respectfully Submitted, Hennebery Eddy Architects, Inc.Ben Lloyd, AIA Michelle Vo, AIA Camilla Cok, AIAVice President Vice President Associate Architectural & Design Services for Bozeman Fire Station 2 RelocationCITY OF BOZEMANa. Taking inspiration from local agricultural buildings, the design layers the subtle rural character of the area over the distinct functions of living and working. The structure is composed of two masses: a vaulted apparatus bay clad with metal and an office and living quarters wrapped in charred wood. The apparatus bay houses the emergency response vehicles as well as working spaces such as a shop, bunker gear washer and storage, and an EMS room. Attached living quarters house the crew and provide a day room, kitchen, fitness room, showers, lockers, and bunk rooms. An area for public reception is located at the station’s front entry and includes the station office, conference room, and District administrative office space. The building is oriented to capture views of the Cascade Mountain Range from the east porch and dayroom – where crews spend most of their time; and the apparatus bay faces the road, presenting the most recognizable feature of a fire station – the engines – to the public.Key PersonnelMichelle VoHennebery Eddy ArchitectsCamilla CokHennebery Eddy Architects Seth PszczolkowskiACC Cost ConsultantsRelevant FeaturesReplacement StationLegacy StationEnergy Efficient DesignGCCM DeliveryAwardsDesign Award, AIA Portland, 2015Unbuilt Design Award, AIA Portland, 2013 Design Award, AIA Northwest and Pacific Region, 2016Wood Design and Building Award, Canadian Wood Council, 2015Wood Design Award, Institutional Design, US Woodworks, 2015Top Projects, Public Service Category, Daily Journal of Commerce, 2016Client ContactMultnomah County Rural Fire Protection District #10Mike McKeel, Board Member(503) 665-8888Naturally daylit spaces and exposed natural wood in the living spaces; durable, charred wood siding on the exterior; and a locally-sorced hard wood table for daily crew gatherings at Station 7612345678910apparatus bayday roombunksfitnesslockersofficeconferenceshopemspatio7665210333310491810 Architectural & Design Services for Bozeman Fire Station 234Stations 16 and 19 were designed with FLEXIBILITY, EFFICIENCY, AND COMMUNITY at the forefront. As flexible prototypes, the structures were conceived not only to meet the resiliency requirements of an essential facility but to accommodate evolving fire fighting protocols regarding safety and equity and to remain relevant to the community for the next 50-100 years. Inspired by the richness of Oregon City’s historic industrial mill, and the rural farming community of Damascus, the simple form and natural, durable finishes reflect the character of the site and region. The stations’ bright-red fire engine bays and canopies open up to the public streets as a gesture of inclusion and symbol of strength and pride in the community. The interior spaces are designed efficiently with inclusivity and equity at the forefront, giving the District flexibility for diversity of crew members both today and into the future. Architectural & Design Services for Bozeman Fire Station 21516OUR SPECIAL CAPABILITIESA Gateway to MSU’s CampusOur team has been working on and around MSU’s campus for over a dozen years. Located on the southeast corner of campus, your new Station 2 will become a landmark alongside the MSU field house, and the Museum of the Rockies. This is an opportunity for the City of Bozeman to design a fire station that serves as a gateway to the MSU campus, and embodies the Fire Department’s legacy as a beacon of public safety in the community. We are excited at the opportunity to work with you to create something truly special for the City of Bozeman and Bozeman Fire. Early Project Campaign & Stakeholder EngagementThrough our experience, we have learned some keys to a successful bond campaign: • ARTICULATE THE NEED, so voters understand why the ask is being made• DISTILL THE INFORMATION, so it is easy to share with voters — and for them to digest• OFFER SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE, for widespread appeal among the taxpayers who are funding the projects • ALLOW FOR SIGNIFICANT COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT in the projects, because people support what they help createHennebery Eddy often supports public and nonprofit clients in their community outreach efforts by creating project visuals, from hand sketches and photo-realistic renderings to 3-D models and virtual reality walk-throughs, which allow stakeholders to “experience” the proposed designs.Sustainable & Resilient DesignResiliency in design is distinct from but related to energy efficiency and sustainability — and is one of the most pressing issues in design and engineering in the Northwest because of the active seismic hazards in our region. We have embraced resilient design for more than 20 years through our work on essential and public facilities such as fire stations, libraries, and courthouses that will maintain critical functions and provide a place of refuge for communities after a seismic event.Beyond structural resiliency, we approach all our projects with an overall philosophy of “net-positive” design for healthy, efficient, and adaptive spaces, with an eye to the long-term. This helps us address other forces relevant to resiliency, such as extreme weather, through the design of passive heating and cooling systems, natural light and ventilation, photovoltaic panels, on-site water treatment systems, and back-up generators. Our commitment starts with firm leaders and includes every staff member. Among our design staff, 100% are LEED professionals trained in environmentally responsive, sustainable design. In addition, we have professional staff certified through Passive House Institute US, International Living Future Institute, and WELL Building Institute.Sustainable Design ServicesSchematic-Level Energy & Daylight ModelingHigh-Performance Envelope DesignSustainable & Red List-Compliant Materials SpecificationNet-Positive Energy & WaterResiliency Planning & Resilient DesignLEED, Living Building Challenge & Passive House Certification/CoordinationPost-Occupancy EvaluationCommitment & RecognitionHennebery Eddy is a signatory to the Architecture 2030 Commitment — a global initiative with the goal of building only carbon-neutral buildings by the year 2030, and of completely removing our reliance on fossil fuels by the year 2050. Firm Workload d. Claims With a staff of 65, our current bench strength can accommodate several additional projects similar to Fire Station 2 without breaking a sweat. Architectural & Design Services for Bozeman Fire Station 2OUR FIRM WORKLOADResources Available & CapacityWe are committed to meeting the needs of the City of Bozeman and Bozeman Fire Department and have assembled a project team that is both highly skilled and available. For this contract, principal in charge, Ben Lloyd is responsible for assuring adequate staffing and other resources to meet project needs. The size of our firm allows us to easily meet schedules for multiple projects concurrently, while maintaining the same level of high-quality, thoughtful, and well-coordinated work. We have MORE THAN ADEQUATE BENCH STRENGTH to support the project as needed to accommodate fluctuations in project demands and schedule.Currently, we have over 35% of our firm’s capacity available for new projects. The schedule on the following pages illustrates that our capacity increases as current projects are completed. Our $215M Concourse E Extension at Portland International Airport was recently completed, freeing up much of our capacity. WE CAN ACCOMMODATE YOUR SCHEDULE, whether it is fast-paced or typical. Our team, plus additional internal staff resources are available and prepared to start immediately. Our consultant team also has the scale and capacity to meet the schedule.17On TimeBy setting meeting and milestone dates at the start of each project, WE SET THE PACE AND EXPECTATIONS EARLY — and meet the schedule. Scheduling well in advance allows critical decision makers to all be in the same room at the same time, so everyone’s time is used to the greatest advantage. We come to each meeting prepared to lead the process, help stakeholders achieve consensus, and keep the team on track. As project manager, Michelle Vo will be guardian of schedule, quality control, and overall communication. She will check in on a weekly basis to keep communication lines active, update you on project status, look ahead to upcoming tasks, and confirm compliance with established milestones. On BudgetPublic buildings are public assets; we respect the need to complete the project efficiently while considering life-cycle cost and long-term maintenance. Our objective is always to meet the budget while giving you the most value within that budget — the most bang for your buck. We are WELL-ACQUAINTED WITH COST FACTORS associated with construction in Bozeman. We use a budget tracking process modeled after target value design — where the budget is constant, rather than fitting the budget to design — checking every decision against its impact on the set budget. We recommend early collaboration with the GCCM partner so their cost control and constructability guidance can help shape the project.CLAIMSDuring the last ten years Hennebery Eddy has not been assessed or paid liquidated damages after completion of a project under contract with a public or private owner.18Availability of Key PersonnelBen MichelleCamilla40% 75% 60% Architectural & Design Services for Bozeman Fire Station 2SCHEDULE35%40%45%75%80%2021 2022 2023 2024June July AugustMayJFJ MAMJJASONDJFMMA MJ J A S ONDFSONDPermitting / BiddingPhase 1: Programming + Concept DesignConstructionPre-Ballot Public Engagement & EducationElection November 2, 2021Phase 2: Design Development & Construction DocumentsNotice to ProceedProject Kick-Off/ Goals Workshop Ballot Measure Filing Deadline August 9, 2021Commission Meeting Prior to Filing Deadline August 3, 2021Proposed Project ScheduleSchedule of Firm Resources Availability e.
