Hello Marty — I wholly support the proposed revision to the City’s Noise Ordinance: “Noise emanating from a construction operation occurring between the hours of 8:00 PM to7:00 AM is prohibited from exceeding 60dB(A) as measured at the property line of animmediately adjacent property.” The current ordinance, allowing noise at construction sites to begin as early as 6 am andcontinue as late as 10 pm, I feel is unreasonable for neighbors, especially given how muchnew construction is underway in virtually every neighborhood in the City. Having experienced new home construction immediately next door for the past 18+ months, the single thing that caused me distress was the beeping from a genie lift, which was bothnearly constant (beeping when the machine moved in ANY direction) and very loud. I wasunable to track down the actual decibels of the genie lift beeper, but according toa report by The National Center for Biotechnology Information (a division of theNational Institutes of Health), backup beepers have “a typical volume of 97–112 decibels (dB)at the source, are loud enough to damage hearing.”[1] That level is considerably above thenew proposed ordinance. Thank you for the opportunity to comment. [1] 4. NIDCD.
