Again, disappointed.
Citizens of Bozeman don't know what to think when the Forest Service says we must cut
(clearcut) trees to save the forest. The idea that timber harvesters will be "carefully selective"of what they cut is badly misinformed. None of us have any idea which trees have genetic
superiority to withstand disease and fire. I have been to the subject areas and they arewonderfully diverse healthy forests. I would argue that many University academics are
funded by industry, and get the press to say that "treatments" by the agencies work. But thefacts (see Bootleg fire in Oregon) prove otherwise. The fires leapfrogged treated areas due to
drought and high wind. We (Bozeman) should be better than that before supporting logging inmature intact forests. Our local scientists like Cathy Whitlock support that. I will be glad to
bring these scientific papers to the attention of those interested. I am available anytime.
It's not political, like Jeff Mihelich would have us think. The best science supports that we"hit pause on everything and let the science catch up" per Guy Alsentzer of Upper Missouri
Waterkeepers. Let's not let lawsuits settle our issues -- make the right decisions ahead of time. (Delay decisions!)
I had other contributions I could have mentioned. Like previous meetings with the Forest
Service (Mary Erickson and Corey Lewellen) on this subject, as Jeff suggests, with thempushing back on science that is not [industry financed] supportive of the timber industry. We
are being 'had' and that is not new. For 100+ years, industries have fought to controlgovernment.
I would be glad to meet live or online with anyone on the commission who is interested. You
are welcome to forward my communications.
Thank you.Nancy Ostlie

This is my first city commission meeting. I live in the county. I was not able to join thewebex even though I registered. WHAT the heck? How would I have known to email or call
to get on the call? Your group is coming off as NOT open to public comment.
I suggest the commission open the meeting to more comment opportunities. This isTERRIBLY important.
Thank you.
