Good afternoon,
I am writing today to ask that the commissioners vote NO to logging the old growth forest at
Kirk Hill for a logging sale.
The city's water system should be intact enough to be protected from sediment if a largewildfire should unfortunately occur. Even if it was not able to handle such sediment, the old
growth at Kirk Hill does not even contribute to the water supply.
The old growth logging project has a statement that its purpose is to protect the city's watersupply from sediment. Since Kirk Hill does not contribute to water supply, this potential
logging for timber sale is simply out of greed.
We already lack the trees necessary for water and shade throughout town. It would becompletely devastating to lose part of what little escape to trees from town we residents DO
have. In a year of so much drought, we should be reminded of the atrocious effects of climatechange. We need every single tree we can get to help remove CO2 from the air.
Again, I ask that you please vote NO to the logging of old growth for timber sales at Kirk
Hill.
Sincerely,
Randi Williams
