The City of Bozeman should NOT file an Amicus brief in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that supports logging 651 acres of "old growth” including Kirk Hill as part of the BMW timber sale. Bozeman’s water treatment plant is capable of dealing with large wildfire sediment. Kirk Hill is one of my favorite close by hiking hills managed by the MSU Foundation from a donation from the Kirk Family to the City of Bozeman public. This area has nothing to do with the City’s water supply. This would ruin the beauty of this nature wonderland so close to town. Old growth forests protect us from climate change – this is known to all climate scientists and is a remedy world wide to reduce the impacts of our carbon distribution into the atmosphere. Our climate on this side of the Divide in Montana never re-grows trees to old-growth size due to lack of humidity and moisture. Cutting this area’s old growth trees will be permanent – no chance of re- growth. The USFS continues to follow their same practices over the many years of their agency hiring college graduates in forestry that are taught the same methods. We need to modernize the USFS considering current science from non-forestry graduates and realize the EARTH is in severe risk of not being able to support all the humans, all non-human beings and all the human activities. This is not a joke and I am scared about what is happening to our planet and we need to take correct climate-saving actions and not follow the “same old messages from the same old people”. Thank you.
