Closing all Burning in the City Limits of Bozeman
Under the authority provided tome by Sections 2.04.300 and 18.04.080,Bozeman Municipal Code
(BMC),I hereby close and prohibit all fires including all open burning and recreational fires within
the City Limits of Bozeman.
Due to the unseasonably early and repeated record high temperatures, historically dry fuel levels,
the Stage 2 Drought restrictions currently in effect within the City of Bozeman, and an overall lack
of regional resources in the event of a large scale fire, I am hereby closing all fires. This burn ban
includes, but is not limited to, all opening burning, recreational fires, outdoor fire pits and
chimeneas, and charcoal grills. Section 18.04.080,BMC,provides no fires shall be set if wind and
weather conditions make it hazardous to burn. The current situation and weather conditions
described above make all fires hazardous. Additionally, the Gallatin County Commission passed
an Emergency Ordinance on July 20,2021 implementing a county wide burn ban. This Emergency
Order recognizes that extreme fire conditions also exist within the City limits and fires can spread
quickly-across jurisdictional boundaries. To ensure consistency, clear guidance, and most
importantly the safety of life and property, I order, effectively immediately, all fires and burning
within the City limits to cease for a period of 90 days unless conditions improve and this Order is
rescinded.
The Bozeman Fire Department will continue to respond to, address, extinguish and investigate all
fires within the City Limits. Pursuant to Sec. 18.04.090, BMC, the Bozeman Police Department
is authorized to investigate complaints and issue written notices of violations, orders to take
correction action, and issue applicable citations to enforce this Order.
Dated this 21'day of July, 2021.
Chie Waldo, Fire Chief—Bozeman Fire Department
I hereby concur:
i elich, Bozeman City Manager
