Dear Planning Board and Commission, During the first Commission meeting on Blackwood Grove and a question from MayorAndrus, I noticed that there was a miscommunication on the answer of what kind of bike lane is currently scheduled along south 19th. After subsequently researching it with the BlackwoodGrove engineers and designers I have found that it is NOT protected as was accidentally stated and will be directly on the highway shoulder where cars are going 60mph. I was told that thisdesign is similar to north 19th (where cyclist Alexa Dzintars was recently killed). A 6 foot sidewalk has been planned by the Blackwood Grove subdivision on the public right of way easement which lies 20 feet to the east on their private property. This is similar towhat Nelson Meadows on Frontage Road originally had in their first requirements from the City. However the Commission ordered that a condition of final plat approval require it to bewidened to a 10 foot multiuser separated pathway. What a great precedent that was! I would hope that for consistency’s sake and the safety of Bozeman residents, the same requirements for a 10 foot multiuser separated pathway be made along all busy highways. The Blackwood Grove subdivision is lovely and has planed well for multimodal travel. Ifound in my conversations that the designers were very hopeful that such a path could be included in the future. Please help make that happen.
