Hello,
I am a 20 year old born and raised here in Bozeman, MT. I have recently heard about the $6 Million
American Rescue Plan funding which is being allocated to Bozeman.
Though some are arguing that this money should be used for infrastructure projects (which would be
funded regardless in the near future), this pandemic has hit the most vulnerable in our community the
hardest, and we must act to repair this damage. Thus, I urge you to use these funds to directly support our
community as follows, and according to President Biden's plan:
- We are facing a shortage of affordable housing on a massive level in our community. I would like to see
some of this relief aid applied directly to helping community members in need pay their rent.
- I would like to see higher wages for essential workers, who paid the cost of our community's health at the
expense of their own personal safety and health.
- Our public education has been resilient throughout the pandemic, but has faced many difficulties, and is
clearly more important than ever as we try to get students back to the same levels of education as we have
found pride in in the past. I would like to see funding given to schools in the Gallatin Valley.
- Finally, I would like to see this funding address our community's root inequalities within access to health
and social programs. This addresses the basic needs - health, food, housing, and support - of the most
vulnerable people in our community. There is a surplus of organizations which help people access these
resources, and they are all in desperate need of support. I would like to see money directed into nonprofit
organizations and support systems which support the most vulnerable in our community.
This relief package is an incredible opportunity for Bozeman to live up to its reputation within Montana,
and within the United States, as a welcoming and liveable place. Directing these precious funds to the most
vulnerable in our community allows us to build up our community so that it can thrive and bounce back
from the toll that the pandemic has placed on each and every one of us.
Thank you for your time,
