HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-28-21 Correspondence - Big Brothers Big Sisters - Thank You Big Brothers Big Sisters, OF BIG SKY COUNTRY May 25, 2021 Mayor Cyndy Andrus 121 N. Rouse Avenue Bozeman, MT 59715 RE: Montana Arts Council and The Silver Linings Mural Project in Bozeman, MT. Dear Mayor Andrus: I am writing to share a success story from 2020, made possible by funding through the Montana Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Big Sky Country was awarded an Artists in Schools and Communities grant in June 2020. This funding allowed our organization to hire a local muralist (Heather Rapp of Manhattan and Big Sky, MT) to work directly with our program participants on The Silver Linings Mural Project in September 2020. The goal of this project was to inspire hope and connection during the Covid-19 pandemic. Little Sister Aria Williams submitted the winning design, which Ms. Rapp used as inspiration for the mural downtown Bozeman located in the alleyway behind Western Plumbing and Heating at 548 E. Mendenhall Street. Matches, Bigs and their Littles, were assigned specific sections of the mural to complete while receiving instruction from the artist. This project was a collaborative effort and it is our hope that the paint will withstand the elements for many years to come as a reminder of youth empowerment and persistence during challenging times. Thank you for taking the time to stop by and see the mural that day. We appreciate your interest and support. Sincerely, pov Brady Portman Community-Based Program Manager Big Brothers Big Sisters of Big Sky Country 15 S. 8th Avenue Bozeman, MT 59715
