We oppose two aspects of the design for Kagy: 1) Traffic circles (especially at Willson) 2) Expanding to 4 lanes. We hope there will be a new fire station on Kagy but this requires the removal of the two traffic circles planned for Kagy. We should not have traffic circles on either side of a fire station. Traffic signals are needed to allow emergency vehicles to quickly and safely travel through these intersections. The light at S Willson Street also breaks the traffic flow so that people and vehicles are able to cross or enter Willson from side streets north and south of the intersection. We drive through the Kagy/Willson intersection often and we have never found any problems with the traffic flow at the light. We also cross that intersection frequently as pedestrians and the two-lane circle will be difficult for pedestrians and bicycles. We need to maintain the traffic light at the Kagy and Willson intersection regardless of whether or not there is a fire station close to it. We are also concerned that making Kagy into a 4-lane expressway will divide our neighborhoods. This area includes MSU and residential neighborhoods. We do not want to see a barrier such as 19th St has made, or North 7th has created, between neighborhoods. We drive this section of Kagy often and we have not found the traffic to be a problem, except for pedestrians. The traffic will flow more easily if the pedestrian crossings (tunnels) are built. Thank you.
