To whom it may concern,
I am writing to add my voice to the many others advocating for the Bozeman Barracudas Swim Club. This
team has shaped my life growing up. There are not many things that I stuck with growing up- I tried dance,
gymnastics, violin, piano, flute, voice, and track/cross-country, but out of all of these, swimming is the only
one I have stuck with. Now, 12 years later, I can look back and confidently say that I would not be the
person I am without this team. It has offered me support, structure, and guidance. Whenever I felt stressed
or lost, I could count on the team to give me the community and support I needed to get through life. Now,
thanks to this team, and the values and support it gave me, I am attending and swimming for the college of
my dreams. I truly don't know where I would be without this sport and this team, and this is why I believe
the city council needs to take a closer look at the plans to limit and change the hours this team has been
given this summer. I understand that it has been difficult to retain staff, but several members of the team,
in addition to numerous coaches, are certified lifeguards and are willing to step in and guard the teams
practices. The proposed hours make swimming inaccessible for so many families because parents cannot
take time off of work in the middle of the day to take their kids to practice, denying them of being a part of
this amazing team. Considering the willingness of qualified team-members and coaches to fill the role of
lifeguards during club practices, I highly recommend you amend the proposed hours and continue to allow
the Barracudas to practice during the normal 4-6pm time slot.
Thank you,
Erin McKinney
