I'm writing to comment on the article in the BDC on the code review performed by the independent
consultant. I've misplaced the article but what I got from it was that the building code needs to be
reworked. Bozeman has been growing for quite some time and its reached a critical level. I think this is a
great time to place a pause (moratorium) on permitting large projects while the code is re-tooled. The
"band-aids" in the code should be torn off and a clear, concise and forward thinking document can be
established and out there for developers to work with. With some big projects in the works I don't like the
idea of letting them slide in under the wire or grandfathered. Or the thought of negotiations after a permit
is granted is just frightening. I don't see the City benefiting in any way. Those projects have a large impact
on growth and the line needs to be drawn somewhere. Not everyone will be happy but there's got to be a
clear break between the past and the future. Now is the time for that.
