To Whom It May Concern: Please consider this my formal comment on the proposed Whole Foods Market Application 20412. I joined with many of my friends and neighbors in Gallatin County in signing the attached petition because we have strong concerns about Amazon's proposed Whole Foods Market at the site of the former Fuddruckers on W. Main Street in Bozeman. I am writing on behalf of Bozeman Matters to formally submit the Petition, along with the growing number of signatures gathered to date (134 and counting). I believe thatthe attached letter and language captures most of what I'd like to say on the matter. Rather than reiterate my concerns about the very real and negative impacts I believe the proposed Whole Foods will have on traffic, limited water resources,stormwater runoff, and pollution, in the surrounding area, I would only like to add that I do not understand how or why Amazon is not being required to do a comprehensive traffic study? I mean, it's like comparing apples to oranges in terms of the traffic that Fuddruckers had versus the traffic that a busy grocery store like Whole Foods will create. Trying to turn onto Main Street is already terrible and hazardous, what, if anything, is Whole Foods going to do to mitigate this increase in traffic? I hope that the City will at least require a full traffic study on this before anything is approved. We at least deserve that. Sincerely, Barbara AndersonBozeman Bozeman Matters Recipient:Bozeman City Commission Letter:Greetings, I join with my friends and neighbors in sharing concern and opposition to Amazon’s plans for a Whole Foods Market at the site of the former Fuddruckers at the Gallatin Mall. I am concerned that this project sounds like a done deal yet there have not been any studies on the very real and negative impact it will have on traffic, storm water runoff and pollution in the surrounding area. Why should Amazon get special treatment and not have to conduct comprehensive traffic and environmental impact studies BEFORE this big box store is approved? I am also concerned about the impact this store will have on our existing local stores, like the beloved Bozeman Co-Op, that actually give back to our community and who treat their employees with dignity and respect. The same cannot be said about Amazon which has numerous national news stories about their poor treatment of employees. There is also simply the lack of need. We have 11 major grocery stores already in Bozeman, why on earth do we want or need a twelfth? For these reasons and more, I ask that you do the right thing and require that Amazon conduct comprehensive traffic and environmental impact studies! We deserve to at least know how this big national chain grocery store will impact traffic, our existing businesses and the character of our community.
