Dear City Commissioners:
I am writing concerning the Buffalo Run annexation and zoning map amendment which is before the City
Commission on April 20. I am the current Chairman of the Bozeman Planning Board, but this letter iswritten in my individual capacity. The Buffalo Run project has not been before the Planning Board and I
admit to not being conversant in its details. For that reason, I do not take a position on whether the City
Commission should approve the project or not.
I would, however, like to make two points that I think can be overlooked:
1. In my view, development projects should be analyzed primarily based on their long-term impact to the
City. Housing on real property tends to have a life of 100 years or more. The Buffalo Run project should
definitely be looked at in terms of its impact over the next few years, but the most weight should be given to
an assessment of its likely contribution to and compatibility with the City 20 years- or even 40 or 80 years-
from now.
2. There are people in this community who will want to live in Buffalo Run. These future residents are not
speaking up, at least not yet. Nonetheless, their desires should be taken into account in your assessment of
this project.
